Florida African American Heritage Celebration
African American history and culture is rejoiced each year during the Florida African American Heritage Celebration. Held at Heritage Village living history museum, this event celebrates the contributions that black people have made to the region.
Bring your friends, family and friends! Visit this event for a full day of great entertainment, delicious food and children's activities.
Featuring:
A variety of African influenced musical performances including jazz, gospel, rhythm & blues and reggae.
African American art show and marketplace
Hands-on art activities for children and adults
Storytelling and puppetry
Ethnic cooking demonstrations
Tours through Heritage Village's historic structures, the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, and the Florida Botanical Gardens, with special displays featuring African plants.

The museum houses a collection of materials that document the history of the African-American community in Pinellas County. Its research collection includes memoirs, history books and albums.

Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson is often called the "Father of Black History." An author, editor and historian, Woodson was born in Virginia and studied Latin and Greek while working in coal mines. The museum showcases the historical influence of African Americans on the development of the City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County from the Orange Belt Railroad to the Civil Rights movement.
