First Friday Fun
Get downtown and get some fun. The ultimate block party takes place every first Friday of the month in downtown St. Petersburg, on Central Avenue between Second and Third streets. Free local jazz music is featured and dancing in the streets is encouraged. The party starts at 5:30pm and lasts until 10pm.
People of all ages enjoy this downtown tradition, now it its' seventh year. And if you don't want to be on the street, there are plenty of bars and restaurants where you can take a break. Go upstairs to "A Taste for Wine" and enjoy a nice glass of red on their New Orleans style balcony, complete with wrought iron railings.
Other alternativies include a nearby tapas bar, the Pier and a variety of pubs and restaurants along Beach Drive and on Central Avenue. You'll find everything from casual to fine dining, and many establishments feature outdoor seating, so you can enjoy the temperate weather.
If you want to sample more music while you are downtown, don't forget to wander over to the nearby Museum of Fine Arts, where the First Friday Arts and Music series takes place. Different artists are featured each month. Concerts take place from 6-9 p.m.
The recently expanded Museum of Fine Arts is located on the waterfront one block north of the Pier. For a complete schedule, check out the website at www.fine-arts.org
