Clearwater Marine Aquarium
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium features live and model displays of area marine life on exhibit at this rescue, rehabilitation and release facility that houses rehabilitating sea turtles, dolphin and other marine life.
Winter the dolphin is the Aquariums' most famous resident. She wasn't supposed to live, but she did. She wasn't supposed to swim, but she did. Vsitors can see the inspirational story of Winter, a female Atlantic bottlenose dolphin that was stranded as a three month old over four years ago. She was found entangled in a crab trap that mangled her tail so badly that it fell off.
Experts thought she would not survive and knew she would never swim. But Winter has beat the odds and defied all expectations. She has grown into a completely healthy juvenile dolphin, has learned to swim and now uses a prosthetic tail to get around. Her story has inpsired thousands around the world.
