The Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit
The special exhibit includes re-creations of the interior of the mammoth luxury liner, including the famous grand staircase and first- and third-class cabins. It also features actual artifacts from RMS Titanic recovered from the debris field of the wreckage. These artifacts range from passengers' personal items to a section of the great vessel's hull. One of the largest lighted boat parades in the area, St. Petersburgs annual event (which is always held the first Saturday of December) starts at sundown and goes from the Harborage Marina north past the Pier to the Vinoy Basin. Charlie Daniels Angelus Jam
Charlie Daniels invites 30 to 35 of his celebrity friends to come to Florida in the middle of winter to help the Angelus, a home for severely handicapped persons who are not able to care for themselves. Egmont Key Kayak Eco-Tour
Sweetwater Kayaks guides this intermediate-level sea kayak tour of historic Egmont Key. Leaving from the Gulf Pier in Fort De Soto Park, the trip features a one mile open water crossing to Egmont Key. The key is home to a bird sanctuary, lighthouse and a Spanish-American War-era fort. Some of the fort is submerged and makes a great place for snorkeling and observing underwater life. Participants may explore the deserted brickstreet of a once vibrant area or lounge on top of the fort for lunch overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Wildllife frequently seen on this trip include: dolphins, rays, egrets, sandpipers, herons, gulls, pelicans, shark, tarpon, gopher and box turtles, sheephead and stone clawed crabs. Tall Ship H.M.S. Bounty
Originally built for the 1962 film Mutiny on the Bounty, as a replica of the ship in the famous 1789 mutiny against Captain William Bligh, the ship is now being used for documentaries and film productions. While in St. Petersburg, the ship will participate in a film production for a current childrens TV show. The Bounty will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, closed Mondays. A Treasured Legacy, Finding Freedom in Florida, The African American Experience in Florida is a traveling exhibit that celebrates the courage, strength and contribution to history of early African American settlers in Florida from 1738 to 1848. The display examines the scattered framents of freedom from the town of Pilaklikaha, the tragic remains of Fort Negro, the proud legacy of Fort Mose - the first free African American city in North America and the amazing story behind the Kingsley Plantation. A Beautiful Florida Night
This musical is a retelling of Jane Austens Pride & Predjudice set in the Tampa Bay area during its formative years in the late 1800s. Hot Glass! Glass Blowing Studio
The Arts Center will host ongoing demonstrations of the art and science of glass blowing. Visitors will watch as glass artists play with fire to melt silicon, color it and blow the molten glass into goblets, vases, pitchers and other objects. Visitors will also get a chance to try their hand in several workshops at the glass studio. School children will take part in the creative process by helping the artists design pieces while at the same time learning about the chemistry of glass. This project is being produced in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, which is exhibiting Chihuly Across Florida: Masterworks in Glass. Dale Chihuly's art is collected and admired throughout the world. Fran Hardy: In a Brilliant Light
Educated at Temple University, the School of Visual Arts, and Parsons School of Design, Fran Hardy is a painters painter. She works exclusively with the luminous egg tempera and oil technique developed by Jan van Eyck, which replicates the quality of light glowing through stained glass. Her subject matter is primarily the natural environment with the glorious hues of vegetation, fruits, and vegetables. GardenFest 2004
Participants will learn how to fertilize their landscape properly including constructing a soothing and calming water feature for their garden. Pinellas County staff of the University of Florida (UF), Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (IFAS), and master gardeners offer hands-on demonstration program for participants to learn how to arrange plants in the yard in an artistic style, plant a butterfly garden, grow herbs, vegetables, flowers, and get expert advice on how to prune and pot plants to create shapely designs. Instruction on making flower arrangements, weaving grass baskets, plant photography, and cooking fruits and veggies with herbs from the garden will be available. Participants can also bid for prizes, explore membership in garden specialty clubs, and purchase products from garden suppliers and dealers. Chihuly Across Florida: Masterworks in Glass
This exhibit features the work of Dale Chihuly, a world famous glass artisan. Chihuly and his studio assistants have created these spectacular, large-scale glass sculptures specifically for St. Petersburg's Museum of Fine Arts. The works will be placed throughout the galleries in the city and respond to the architectural features of the Museum's neo-Palladian-style building, as well as its interior space. The Tampa Bay Flower Show
The Tampa Bay Flower Show will introduce expert and novice gardeners to the special climate and eco-systems of the Tampa Bay area. Seventeen demonstration gardens, more than 150 garden product exhibitors, as well as dozens of educational presentations and demonstrations will fill the Expo Center. The Flower Show will provide demonstrations in planting, flower care techniques and planting materials. Featured speakers will include well-known horticulturists and authors such as Pat Lanza, author of Lasagna Gardening. Trevor Bell: The Florida Years
British artist Trevor Bell worked in the State of Florida for over two decades. As a professor in the art department at Florida State University, he was head of graduate painting, extremely prolific, and exhibited internationally until his return to England in the late 1990s. Jean-Claude Rigaud, of Haitian decent, received his BFA from the National University of Mexico in Mexico City, and undertook further studies at the Teachers College at Columbia University, and at the University of Miami. Florida Gulf Beaches Marathon
The open loop course for this marathon and relay begins on the Clearwater Causeway, heading south through five unique, beach communities to Indian Shores, before heading inland to Seminole and north along the Pinellas Trail, finishing downhill near Coachman Park on Clearwater's beautiful waterfront. It also includes a two-person relay with each running 13.1 miles. Spring on the Flats Fishing Tournament
Proceeds from this catch and release tournament go to the Pinellas County Environmental Foundation (PCEF). The PCEF grant program benefits Tampa Bay and its watershed, including such projects as sea grass restoration, water quality improvements and environmental education. The two-day event begins with a Captains Meeting and Pairings Party at the tournament headquarters, the Renaissance Vinoy Resort. The tournament runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the fishing area includes Tampa Bay, its tributaries and the Gulf of Mexico. Gulfport's End of Summer Gecko Fest
This quaint town on Boca Ciega Bay celebrates the little lizards known as Geckos with a family festival and parade complete with fireworks. Artists in Gulfport's ArtVillage are creating pins, hats and yard ornaments celebrating these salamanders. Visitors are encouraged to wear colorful costumes and hats. Craft tables will be set up with supplies for those who didn't bring their Gecko garb. The Gecko Festival is from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. on the waterfront in Gulfport. Times Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot celebrates its 26th anniversary with an anticipated 10,000 runners trotting through Clearwater. The event features a one-mile "Gobbler" run, 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) "Wingding" and 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) "Turkey Trot." Proceeds from the St. Petersburg Times Turkey Trot will be donated to many local charities. Runners are welcome to bring canned goods and non-perishable food items in the stadium on race day.
