5. Treasure Island

Treasure Island is a residential community, population 7,369, and tourist destination that incorporates five separate islands into one city. It is immediately west of St. Petersburg and is home to four miles of wide, flat Gulf of Mexico beach that has earned the nickname "Jewel of the Beaches." John's Pass on the north end and Blind Pass on the south provide boaters with fast and easy access to the Gulf of Mexico from Boca Ciega Bay. The area's hotels, restaurants and live entertainment centers provide a fun atmosphere for visitors and locals alike. Treasure Island features a family atmosphere and is known for its events including a regional sport kite competition in January, the Taste of the Beaches food festival in April, "Symphony on the Beach" in May and a week-long Pirate Days extravaganza during the July 4th weekend.
