The tradition of teethers and rattles for babies is as old as humankind. During the Enlightenment and particularly in the nineteenth century, as the child had a more honored place in society, the variety and types of rattles increased in Europe and the United States. This exhibition contains a variety of rattles from a period of approximately three hundred years and in a range of materials, including gold, silver, tin, ivory, coral, and crystal. Jeff Whipple is one of Florida's preeminent artists and has exhibited broadly throughout the United States.
