Love and Death: Dali and Two French Writers
Two never-before-exhibited suites of etchings by Dali from the museum's permanent collection are featured in this exhibit. The etchings, which survey the themes of love and death, illustrate the works of two French writers: Guillaume Apollinaire and Andre Malraux. Dali Objects/Dali Fetishes
This is an intimate exhibition of four of Dali's most intriguing object-creations originally dating from the 1930s, representing his contribution to a category of surrealist work known as the "surreal object." Famous Faces: Celebrity Portraits in Photography
From the earliest period of photographic history in the 1840s, the portrait could be viewed as photography's reason for being. By the nineteenth-century's close, practitioners of the medium asserted its artfulness with landscapes and posed tableaux, but engaging portraits continued to flourish, deriving from both photography's commercial and artistic side. Famous people faced the photographer's camera not only for their family and friends, but also for history, posterity, and adoring admirers. This exhibition contains such portraits as the writer George Sand by Nadar, physicist Albert Einstein by Philippe Halsmann, poet Ezra Pound by Richard Avedon, and film star Gloria Swanson by Edward Steichen. Red Grooms: The Graphic Work
The exhibition covers forty years of printmaking by one of the best-known American artists working today. Red Grooms grew up in Nashville and moved first to Chicago and then to New York, where he found the vitality of the city and the diversity of lifestyles to be an inspiration for his prints. A selection of 110 wall pieces and 15 pedestal pieces drawn from the private collection of Walter G. Little Luxuries: Antique Baby Rattles and Teethers
The tradition of teethers and rattles for babies is as old as humankind. During the Enlightenment and particularly in the nineteenth century, as the child had a more honored place in society, the variety and types of rattles increased in Europe and the United States. This exhibition contains a variety of rattles from a period of approximately three hundred years and in a range of materials, including gold, silver, tin, ivory, coral, and crystal. Jeff Whipple: A Twenty Year Survey
Jeff Whipple is one of Florida's preeminent artists and has exhibited broadly throughout the United States. Guest curator, Mark Ormond, will explore the work of this innovative artist who often juxtaposes common everyday objects in figurative settings as symbols for contemporary issues, or examines the world of unlikely heroes. Holiday Tree Lighting and Stroll

5th Annual Nutcracker in the Park
Held in the waterfront Straub Park, decked with holiday lights, starlit sky and palm trees, will be the full length production of the traditional holiday classic. The city of Gulfport, just west of St. Petersburg, starts its lighted boat parade from the Boca Ciega Yacht Club. The route goes from the yacht club marina, past the city pier and municipal beach, and through several areas along Boca Ciega Bay. Holiday Laser Show at Science Center
The Science Center will offer free telescope viewing for the public from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Planetarium presentations will be offered throughout the evening at $1 per person.
