The Arts Center opens its first exhibition devoted solely to the work of East Asian artists now residing in the United States. Bridging traditions and influences, cultural heritage affects the choice of imagery, medium and technique. Ten artists are participating, with work in ceramics, mixed media and painting. This exhibit launches the fifth year of a successful cooperative venture between the Pinellas County Schools and the Arts Center. The American Stage, St. Petersburg's professional theater, offers a live production of a William Shakespeare work in a beautiful outdoor setting. This year's performance is "Bomb-itty of Errors," a rapping, rhyming "Comedy of Errors," Shakespeare's tale of two sets of identical twins, separated as infants, who rediscover each other via a series of happy accidents and much pandemonium. This exhibit consists of approximately 65 works, including 15 one-of-a-kind museum pieces, designed by Gianmaria Buccellati. The Dunedin Historical Museum presents this exhibit featuring artifacts from World War II. Dunedin was primarily a rural area during the War, but residents made considerable contributions. In honor of Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee, the Florida International Museum will salute her with a display that includes memorabilia dating back to 1837 and the reign of Queen Victoria.
