2002 Americas' Sail - St. Petersburg
An international fleet of Tall Ships will compete in a race from Curacao to Jamaica. The tall ships will sail to St. Petersburg in a Parade of Sail to receive the Americas Sail Trophy to this year's winner and will dock at the Port of St. Petersburg and the USF waterfront campus. Tours of the ships, special events welcoming the visiting sailors and cadets, music, food, maritime arts and crafts, entertainment and educational activities will fill the 6-day festival. From the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum's collection of nearly 3,000 model aircraft, 25 superlative examples have been selected to celebrate the exciting role aircraft modeling has played in aviation history over the past 100 years. Turtle Walks
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium organizes one-hour educational walks with a Marine Biologist touring the nesting beaches of Florida's Beach area. Tours begin on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and conclude by 11 a.m. Cost is $6 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Webb's City: A Community Remembers
This exhibit will revisit the circus-like atmosphere of the store that grew to be a $30 million retail complex that covered several city blocks, selling everything from groceries to men's clothes. The exhibit will explore Webb's City years of dynamic, energetic ideas and hoopla, such as talking mermaids and chickens and chimp acts, that helped draw an average of 60,000 customers a day. Historic Tours of the Fort Harrison Hotel
"Sundays at the Fort Harrison" which is a weekly open house at the Hotel, lasts from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. This open house includes historic tours of the hotel, the Images of a Lifetime photo exhibition based on the life of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, and Sunday Brunch and dinner at the hotel's Hibiscus restaurant. The Sunday brunch buffet costs $20, dinner entrees range from $8 - $16. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., dinner from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and reservations are not necessary. Tours of the hotel are free.
