Madeira Beach, population 4,230, is joined to the mainland near St. Petersburg by a free causeway. Madeira Beach offers swimming and parasailing as well as jet ski rentals. Boats can be chartered from several marinas for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Madeira Beach is most famous for the scenic harbor of John’s Pass, with the charming John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk, a collection of shops, galleries and restaurants. This area also features commercial and charter fishing as well as casino and sightseeing cruises. Madeira Beach is the site of several festivals and special events, including the John's Pass Seafood Festival in October, which draws more than 100,000 people each year.
