PETERSBURG/CLEARWATER AREA CVB SETS STANDARD WITH TECHNOLOGY MARKETING DIRECTOR CLEARWATER, FL - (Dec. 14, 1998) The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced the appointment of Scott Schult as Technology Marketing Director. The Bureau is one of the first CVBs in the nation to specifically designate a staff member to marketing tourism through the use of emerging technologies. Schult previously worked for Marriott Corporation and consulted on database marketing systems for the Evansville (IN) Convention & Visitors Bureau. He has a masterís degree in tourism marketing from Purdue University. The way people book vacations is changing, and new methods of reaching potential travelers are being developed all the time," said Carole Ketterhagen, CVB executive director. "We are not just talking about someone to manage our Web site. Scott will incorporate the Internet and a host of other emerging technologies into our destination marketing." Schultís first priority will be to coordinate sharing of information throughout the Bureau, which recently expanded its tour & travel and meetings & conventions sales staffs. He will also develop new systems for managing data throughout Bureau departments. The CVB plans to incorporate its Web site as a marketing tool, providing increased user interaction to capture consumer information for direct marketing initiatives. "Technology is a tool that will lead to more efficient marketing," said Schult. "We will keep researching the latest technology to keep the Bureau on the cutting-edge of destination marketing." The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area CVB has an annual budget of more than $17 million and oversees the tourism promotion of the leading visitor destination on Floridaís Gulf coast. The results of these efforts are that more than 4.35 million visitors annually come to Pinellas County and contribute more than $2.2 billion per year directly into the local economy. The area recently completed its seventh year of record visitation. The Bureau recently consolidated its operations and expanded its sales staff to maximize local industry involvement and remain at the forefront in the travel trade. The new structure allows for expanded sales activities, generates more direct interaction from the local tourism industry and creates a more effective staffing situation. The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area is best known for 35 miles of spectacular beaches, two of which are rated among the top 10 in the United States, and record-breaking sunshine. A variety of attractions, world-class museums, sporting activities and nature-related experiences are also readily available. |
