Gulfport's End of Summer Gecko Fest
This quaint town on Boca Ciega Bay celebrates the little lizards known as Geckos with a family festival and parade complete with fireworks. Artists in Gulfport's ArtVillage are creating pins, hats and yard ornaments celebrating these salamanders. Visitors are encouraged to wear colorful costumes and hats. Craft tables will be set up with supplies for those who didn't bring their Gecko garb. The festival runs 6-10 p.m. on the waterfront. For more information, call 727-893-1070.

Museum of History: Kids are Free in August
The St. Petersburg Museum of History will offer a back-to-school special for kids in the month of August, where admission will be free for children under the age of 18, when accompanied by an adult. Clearwater Arts Studios Exhibit
The Clearwater Arts Studio showcases this exhibit of more than 60 works done by famous artists and new talent. The exhibit includes four oil paintings by Robert Schoeller, whose portrait of George Washington officially commemorated the Bicentennial Celebration of the U.S. Constitution; the photography of internationally known Dick Zimmerman whose works have appeared on more than 1000 magazine covers; and other work by Jessica Rockwell, niece of famous Norman Rockwell, and Jim Warren. Ahoy Maitz
This Florida International Museum exhibition of original artwork by Don Maitz presents the Golden Age of Piracy through facts and imagination. More than fifty works are displayed using oil paint, acrylic, pen, ink, watercolor and pencil. As the original and continuing artist of the popular Captain Morgan Spiced Rum character, Maitz has produced fourteen paintings of the character in the red suit. Forms of Cubism: Sculpture and the Avante-Garde
This exhibit will feature sculpture and related drawings by early masters of Cubism: Lipschitz, Zadkine, Picasso, Braque, Gaudier-Brezka, Brancusi, Laurens and Archipenko. Webb's City: A Community Remembers
This exhibit will revisit the circus-like atmosphere of the store that grew to be a $30 million retail complex that covered several city blocks, selling everything from groceries to men's clothes. The exhibit will explore Webb's City years of dynamic, energetic ideas and hoopla, such as talking mermaids and chickens and chimp acts, that helped draw an average of 60,000 customers a day. Love and Death: Dali and Two French Writers
