The St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is known for having some of the best beaches in the U.S. as well as record-breaking sunshine, and during Super Bowl Week another Guinness World Record will be attained. The world's tallest sand sculpture of the two Super Bowl teams' football helmets will be created on the beach of Sand Key Park near Clearwater Beach. A dynamic laser show every evening will accentuate the majestic sunsets on the Gulf coast.

Super Celebration on Florida's Beach consists of a variety of special events sanctioned by the NFL to be in association with Super Bowl XXXV. Everything from an art walk including the best of culture and history in the St. Petersburg area to sports clinics to concerts with legendary acts will be happening during Super Bowl Week on Florida's Beach.

January 20, 2001 Big Band Ballroom Dance The Coliseum in St. Petersburg A Tribute to Harry James and the Andrews Sisters kicks off the historic Coliseum's 2001 Big Band Ballroom Dance Series. Step back in time as you join hundreds of dancers enjoying the fabulous Historic Coliseum Ballroom, famous since 1924 when its doors swung open to welcome thousands of dance lovers and as seen in the movie "Cocoon." The popular Charly Raymond Orchestra will be featured in a "Tribute to Harry James and the Andrews Sisters" at the southeast's largest and most popular ballroom. Reserved seating is available at your private table or alcove, where you can "bring your own bottle" in true bottle-club fashion. Set-ups and snacks are available for purchase. January 21, 2001 2nd Annual Florida Gulf Beaches Marathon Starts and Finishes in Clearwater This 26.2-mile marathon tours through Pinellas County's unique beach communities, parks and residential areas. The flat, fast and scenic course is USATF certified and offers runners and walkers an exciting, healthy way to experience Florida's Beach and the first ever Super Bowl sanctioned and themed marathon. Walkers start at 6:00 a.m. and runners start at 7:00 a.m. on Cleveland Street on Clearwater's waterfront, heading west to Clearwater Beach, south through Belleair Beach, Belleair Shore, Indian Rocks Beach, and Indian Shores, east to Seminole, north through Largo, Belleair to Clearwater. Finishes just south of Coachman Park with winners expected at about 9:20 a.m. and the last walkers at about 2:00 p.m. We also offer a 2-person relay, 5-person relay and corporate challenge. Spectators are invited and encouraged to cheer on the participants. Volunteers are needed to help at twenty aid stations throughout the course. Marathon is limited to 5,000 participants who can register for $40 until December 31, $50 until January 18 and $60 on marathon weekend if space is available. Up to 500 Two-Person relay teams will be accepted and team entry fees are $60 before December 31, $70 until January 18, and $80 on marathon weekend if space is available. Up to 500 Five-Person relay teams will be accepted and team entry fees are $120 before December 31, $130 until January 18, and $140 on marathon weekend if space is available. January 25 - 28, 2001 Super PierFest The Pier in St. Petersburg The Pier will be overflowing with free entertainment all weekend. Starting Thursday, January 25, kick off the weekend with live entertainment including Dixieland music and "Lord Saint" Steel Drum Band. Friday, January 26, there will be live music throughout the afternoon including the best blues band in the Bay Area, "T.C. Carr and the Catch". Events for Saturday, January 27 feature fun for kids with the Pier Aquarium's "Super Fish Bowl", Great Explorations Museum's "Finger Football" and "Game Day" (board games galore)! "Shana Banana" will be on hand with music and fun for kids and "Fritzey", the One-Man Circus, a featured favorite of the Bay Area, will hold performances both Friday and Saturday. "Jambalaya", the best reggae band around will get you dancing all day on Saturday. Custom cars of all makes and models will line The Pier approach on Sunday, January 28, and a steel drum band will perform in the courtyard, overlooking Tampa Bay.
