OUTDOORS
Well, it all began with Shakespeare, right? As it can be said for stage shows in general, the same can be said for the American Stage In the Park series in downtown St. Petersburg.
American Stage, the leading professional theater group in the area, each year takes a production outdoors to a stage at Demens Landing Park, on the shore of Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg. Its a run that began as Shakespeare in the Park and since has evolved to include other shows.
Starting with 10 performances of Taming of the Shrew for more than 8,000 patrons in 1986, the Shakespeare in the Park tradition spanned 20 years.
In the 1990s and early 2000s the group began expanding the range of performances by presenting A Bomb-itty of Errors, a hip-hop adaptation of A Comedy of Errors.
Now in its' 22nd season, American Stage Theater Company brings the hilarious musical hit, Little Shop of Horrors for the 2007 production of theater under the stars. One of the longest-running Off-Broadway monster hits of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Bring a blanket and basket and enjoy a picnic or purchase exquisite food and libations at the park from Orange Blossom Catering.
