The Sport of Kings
Now celebrating 81 years in the area, Tampa Bay Downs is the only race track on the West Coast of Florida to offer thrilling thoroughbred racing.
With full, competitive fields, dynamic trainers and thrilling live racing action and wagering, Tampa Bay Downs is the only place to go for winter racing! Tampa Bay Downs' main track has a one mile dirt oval with a 3/8's and 7/8's mile chute. Tampa Bay Downs added its 7/8th mile grass track, complete with a ¼ mile chute, in 1998, and has become one of the most popular turf courses in North America. The track also features the Downs Golf Practice Facility, which allows patrons to practice their swing while viewing and wagering on simulcast racing.
Special Events are Right On Track!
Always one of the TampaBay area’s biggest annual sporting events, Festival Day is Tampa Bay Downs’ premiere day of racing. Featuring a full day of racing with the Tampa Bay Derby, the Grade III Hillsborough Stakes, the Florida Oaks and the Turf Dash Stakes. The Tampa Bay Derby is the highlight of Festival Day’s and has had a long tradition of sending entrants to the Kentucky Derby and other premier 3-year-old stakes.
The Florida Cup Day at Tampa Bay Downs is now in its fifth year. Showcasing dozens of the state’s finest horses and a handful of stars bred outside Florida, includes four stakes races restricted to Florida-breds, and two open stakes races. The quality of racing on Florida Cup Day is sure to impress racing fans more than ever.
Outside of Churchill Downs, there is no better place to watch and wager on the Kentucky Derby than at Tampa Bay Downs, where the biggest Derby party in Florida has been entertaining fans for many years. The day’s live racing card includes the Chris Thomas Turf Classic and the Lightning City Stakes, and is the perfect complement to the big races at Churchill Downs.
A Kentucky Derby party wouldn't be complete without mint juleps, which are sold in commemorative glasses throughout the track.
A Sure Bet!
The Silks Card Room features 8 different types of live action games: Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, Texas Hold’em, “Action” Texas Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Lo, “Action” Omaha Hi-Lo, Omaha Hi Only, and Crazy Pineapple.
The elegant air-conditioned room is completely non-smoking and includes 22 poker tables. There are plenty of TV monitors and roaming tellers, so fans can watch, wager and win on all the horseracing and simulcast action. Tableside beverage service is offered, so no one has to miss a hand.
