More Than Just A Market
Starting in early October through May there is a sense of community on display every Saturday morning in downtown St. Petersburg. People gather, meet neighbors, chat over a cup of coffee or freshly made smoothie and share a laugh. The streets are full of dogs, families, young and elderly shoppers all enjoying the vast array of offerings, music and firendly atmosphere of the Market.
Fresh Produce, Baked Goods, Plants and More.
With more than 100 vendors selling everything from organic honey to freshly picked fruits and vegetables and baked goods, your taste buds are sure to go home satisified. Also available at the market and ready for you to enjoy are lovingly made sandwiches, delectable cheeses, short order breakfasts and so much more.
If you enjoy finding plants and flowers that aren't often available in stores, you'll love wandering the many stalls offering heirloom plants and beautiful cut flowers.
Music and Crafts
Your palate won't be the only satisfied sense at the Market. From colorful hand woven baskets to pottery, jewelry, and original clothing, artists of all types display their unique one-of-a-kind wares. Live music is also regular part of Saturday mornings, making your stroll among the stands lively and enjoyable. From week to week, pop, jazz, vocals, rhythm and blues all share the spotlight, providing a new experience each week.
Regulars and newcomers can often be found dancing to the beat of the music, further adding to the magic of the Market. If you arent' up for a jig, simply sit back and enjoy the sounds. There is plenty of seating area available to relax after you finish shopping. And, don't forget to check the craft and plant stands also.
Mr. Got 'Em
Following a tradition begun over 80 years ago by a gentleman named Elijah Moore, who walked the streets of St. Petersburg in formal wear hawking homegrown vegetables for decades crying out "You want 'em? I got 'em!", Brady Johnson dons a tuxedo and top hat while hawking his wares at the Market. A strking character, he reminds market goers of some of the "Old Florida" that still exists among the gleaming new sky scrapers that line downtown St. Petersburg.
More Magic
Mr. Johnson is just one of the many highlights offered by the Market. Also known to visit is Moonbeam, a cute young goat owned by a farmer offering fresh raw goats' milk from her award winning herd. Other special events include holiday caroling contests, community programs, seasonal celebrations and more. Every week there's something new at the Market.
In a new location for the 2008-2009 season, the Market is moving one block to the Al Lang Stadium parking lot
at the corner of First Avenue South and First Street.
