Peruse the list of County Parks along Floridas Beach, and all probably qualify in one way or another as Best this or Most that. When it comes to Most Unique, however, the honor must go to a park that is a scant several feet wide, at points. Its also 37 miles long.
That park is the Pinellas Trail, a former railroad corridor that now is reserved for biking, hiking or rollerblading. It begins off U.S. 19 near Tarpon Springs, and winds through the entirety of the Floridas Beach area before ending near Central Avenue in St. Petersburg.
All along the way, rest areas, benches and water fountains greet visitors who want to take in some or all of the Trail. And all along the way, the Trail provides access points to nearly every town of the Floridas Beach area. You can feel away from it all, yet be traveling through the very heart of the Floridas Beach area.
It meanders through the charming downtown districts of Dunedin and Clearwater, and winds along other parks, such as Pioneer Park, Hammock Park, Taylor Park and Ridgecrest Park. Spur trails also can deliver visitors to nearby spots such as Honeymoon Island.
