From Saint Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums and the Swiss Guard, this is your chance to see items rarely, if ever, displayed for the public. Using dramatic recreated settings - such as the Tomb of Saint Peter, The Sistine Chapel and the Renaissance Basilica of Saint Peter - this exhibit includes approximately 200 rare objects, including mosaics, sculptures and gifts to the popes from notables.

This exclusive showing includes artwork dating back to the third century, with works by Michelangelo, Bernini,

Giotto, and Guercino among others. The timing of the exhibition commemorates the 500th anniversary of Saint Peter's Basilica, the founding of the Vatican Musuems, Michelangelo's painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling and the establishment of the Papal Swiss Guard.

Highlights of the show include a reliquary containing fragments of bones of Saint Peter and a gold Votive Plaque found in the area of the tomb; the Mandylion of Edessa, an image on linen considered to be one of the oldest representations of Jesus; the Papal Tiara of Pope Pius VII, the symbol of the papacy made of gold, precious stones, pearls, velvet and silk and topped by an exquisite emerald, among others.

From culture to history to art, this is the first of three stops on the North American tour and can be seen at the Florida International Musuem, in association with the Smithsonian Institution.
