The beach at Fort De Soto is ranked as America's Best Beach for 2005. Fort De Soto features an 800-foot-long boat launching facility with 11 floating docks, making it the largest boat launching facility in the region and possibly the nation. The five keys (islands) that make up the park are very popular with kayak and canoe enthusiasts. A 2.25-mile recreational canoe trail was completed in 1997. Canoe and kayak rentals are available. It is the largest county park in the area, with 1,136 acres on five interconnected islands located at the tip of Pinellas County in Tierra Verde. It includes more than seven miles of beaches, boat docks, camp grounds, fishing piers, nature trails, a canoe trail, plus much more.
