Weedon Island Preserve combines a wonderful nature experience on a site with fascinating historical significance. The Cultural and Natural Histor Center features classrooms and exhibit areas designed by anthropologists, historians and Native Americans to reflect the art and history of the area?s first people. Weedon Island Preserve is a group of low-lying islands in north St. Petersburg whose history goes back 10,000 years when early peoples such as the Timucuans and Manasotas made the island their home. The center combines a look at artifacts excavated from the site by the Smithsonian in the 1940s, as well as the chance to experience aspects of Native American culture including dance, cooking, art, crafts and more. The preserve also includes a nature experience with a 4-mile canoe trail and 9-mile hiking trail along with a fishing pier and waterfront picnic sites.

Whimsical Wheels, Inc, the surrey bike rental folks who ?bring back old time fun,? now offer Segway Tours of St Petersburg on personal human transporters - the ?technology of the future? -to cruise the sights, specialty shops, museums, restaurants, and beautiful downtown parks. With home base at The Pier, the $50 rental fee includes basic training, 1 ½ hours of roundtrip tour, personal tour guide, beverage en route, and commemorative photo and frame. ?Anyone over 13 years old, and under 275 pounds can comfortably do it!? says William Doyle, owner and independent operator of St Pete Segway Tours. There are virtually no physical restrictions-just an ability to step up and stand on the platform of a Segway Human Transporter (HT).
