Originally named R. E. Olds-On-The-Bay after its founder Ransom E. Olds, the automobile maker, the towns name was later changed to Oldsmar. This Floridas beach city is on the north end of Old Tampa Bay, connecting Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. Before the bridges were built between the counties, travel to St. Petersburg routed through Oldsmar.
Oldsmar is home to Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack and thoroughbred horse racing in the area. From Shore Drive the view of Old Tampa Bay is spectacular. Much of the shoreline is undeveloped parkland and is a gentle reminder of the incredible natural beauty that remains in some parts of Florida. Where the waters of Tampa Bay, the Gulf and Lake Tarpon combine on Old Tampa Bay make this an area of unmatched recreational and leisure activities.
The visitor choices include swimming, fishing and boating, water skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving, jet skiing and windsurfing. And, the visitor is only twenty minutes from the white sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Oldsmar is beautifully landscaped, covered in oaks and has a charming Old Florida feel to the visitor. R. E. Olds Park on Old Tampa Bay boasts a 200-foot fishing pier. While you are there, enjoy the oak-shaded Bayside picnic facilities for a family reunion or special event.
The city also plays host to an annual Oktoberfest. Floridas Beach hometown community of Oldsmar has an abundance of vacation amenities and choices.
