Located at the headwaters of Old Tampa Bay, the bayside community of Safety Harbor is nestled between Clearwater and Oldsmar, and is the home to historic Espiritu Santo Springs.
Legend has it that Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto believed he had discovered the Fountain of Youth, the same Fountain of Youth undiscovered by Ponce de Leon on his quest. De Soto named these clear waters Espiritu Santo Springs, which means "Springs of the Holy Spirit." The natural springs have ever since attracted attention for their curative powers.
Today the site is home to the world famous Safety Harbor Resort & Spa, visited by health conscious visitors from around the world. Safety Harbor is reminiscent of old Florida towns, resplendent with moss-covered oaks. Why not park the car, walk along Main Street and take in the brick lined avenues filled with shops and local restaurants.
Enjoy a picnic or family reunion at Philippe Park; or just kick back and drop a fishing line from The Safety Harbor Fishing Pier. Or . . . launch your boat for a day of flats fishing on Old Tampa Bay. Begin or end your perfect day with a leisurely walk along Bayshore Linear Park.
